Making the Magic Last
The Secret to a Long, Happy Scented Candle Life
You've picked the perfect candle, and now you want it to last as long as possible, right? Of course you do. A candle with a short life is just a tragedy.
So, here's the details on treating your candle right, so it sticks around for as long as you let it.
The First Burn is Everything- We can't stress this enough: that first burn is a big deal. It sets the "memory" for the whole candle. You must let it burn long enough for the melted wax pool to reach the entire edge of the container. If you snuff it out too early, it will start "tunneling"—burning straight down the middle and wasting all that glorious wax on the sides. Don't do it. Commit to that first burn.
Give it a Trim (Seriously)- We know, it sounds fussy. But this is the #1 secret to a clean, long-lasting candle. Before every single time you light it, trim that wick to about 1/4 inch. A short wick gives you a clean, manageable flame, not a smoky, sooty mushroom top that ruins the scent and stains your jar. It’s a two-second job that makes all the difference.
Keep it Calm- Your candle wants a nice, stable home. Keep it away from drafts, fans, or that open window. A dancing flame might look romantic, but it’s actually just burning your wax unevenly and way too fast. Rude.
Know When to Say Goodnight-Candles aren't meant for all-day marathons. Most are happiest burning for 3-4 hours at a time. This gives the wax pool time to get to the edge, but doesn't overheat the jar or burn off all your scent in one go. Give it a rest, let it cool completely, and then it'll be ready for you again.
