Selecting the Right Candle for the Job
When it comes to picking the right candle for the moment, it's important to know what your goal is.
We're here to help!
Body Play Candles
Body Play. From ancient rituals to modern temperature play, candles have been a documented part of intimacy for over 4,000 years.
Low-temperature waxes, such as soy and paraffin, provide a safer alternative to beeswax and other high-temperature waxes. They also moisturize and rejuvenate the skin.
We will smoke cleanse these like any other ritual candle we make upon your request.
Because your safety is important to us, none of our Body Play line is scented in order to avoid fragrance pockets that can form in wax candles and cause areas of oil that burn hotter than the rest of the wax.
Body Oil Massage Candles
Tired of cold massage oil? Body Oil candles, our massage candle line, are heated up to just above skin temperature and will keep you or your partner sighing in warm satisfaction.
Simply light, wait a few minutes for the wax to melt, extinguish the flame, check the temperature, and pour.
One tealight will be enough for a back massage, or you can get a full sized candle that will last you through several.
Our massage candles are made with Kokum butter instead of the industry standard Cocoa Butter. Why should you care? Kokum butter is non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn't clog your pores the way Cocoa butter can.
Beeswax Ritual and Altar Candles
Looking to enhance your sacred space or set powerful intention that deserves a little something *extra*? In addition to hand dipping these candles, we smoke cleanse them (no white sage here, only lavender and rosemary or your herbs of choice) before sending them on their way.
Our beeswax tapers and chimes possess a natural, subtle honey fragrance that compliments the ambiance without competing for presence. We offer them in 10 standard colors, but are happy to get a close shade match for custom orders.
As for our altar candles? They're a not-so-hidden menu item, custom made to order. We're careful not to put stones or flowers where the flame can cause them to pop or burn. (If you choose to light them at all. Some people just... wont.)
Scented Tarts and Candles
Scented candles, the classic. What kind of candle company would we be if we didn't make scented candles? Well, since you took the time to read this page, we'll let you in on another 'secret'- If you want a certain VINEVIDA scent and you don't see it in our lineup then we will order it for you! (Please allow another 2-5 days for shipping)
From warm scents like Apple Cinnamon to refreshing woody notes like Cedarwood and Amber, we've got you covered.
Need a candle refill? Get 20% off for bringing back your container. Not super into lit flames and you want wax tarts? We've got you. Want to try a new scent, but not enough to buy a whole candle? We have tealights you can use to test out our scents.
When applying any wax or flame heated product to the skin you are never entirely safe from burn risks, so be sure to test for temperature and allergens before engaging in intimate activities. Be cautious with open flames at all times and have a plan for what to do if you knock something over, just like with any other candle. Engage in wax play at your own risk and with all due caution to the nature of flames.
What's In Your Candles, Anyways?
Low temp? Long burning? Scented? We don't just sell a variety of candles- we custom make them to your specifications! So, where do you even start figuring out what will fit the occasion?
Ingredients matter.
At Taper and Chime, ingredients are where it all starts. Each of our Body Play and Body Oil products lists every ingredient used in it- the only proprietary part of our blend is the ratios. So, why don't we talk about those ingredients and the products they are used in?
Types of Wax
- Soy Wax- Natural, renewable base offering a cleaner, slower burn. Excellent fragrance retention. Used as the base for all of our Body Play and Body Oil candles due to the low melting point.
- Coconut Wax*- Another natural clean and slow burning wax with excellent fragrance retention, we offer coconut wax as a low melting point alternative in Body Play and Body Oil candles for individuals with a soy allergy.
- Paraffin Wax- Medium temperature wax. We like to cut ours with soy to bring down the temperature even lower for our Body Play candles. Versatile industry classic with an intense fragrance retention and vibrant color saturation.
- Beeswax- High temperature wax, not suitable for body play on its own. If there is anything you walk away from this page remembering, please let it be that. We only use beeswax in spell tapers and votive candles and do not mix it with any blends made to touch the skin.
With that being said, beeswax is an all-natural wax with an extremely long burn time, perfect for altar tapers and chimes. It is known for a subtle, natural honey scent and air-purifying properties.
- Tart Wax- Not suitable for body play due to manufacturer additives. The tart wax we use is a blend of soy wax, palm wax, coconut and other natural additives that is pre-measured by the manufacturer to hold a heavier scent load.
Types of Butter
- Shea Butter- Offers a rich, creamy, and protective feel, absorbing slowly to leave a deeply moisturizing and occlusive barrier that prevents moisture loss.
- Kokum Butter- Lightweight, non-greasy finish and rapid absorption, delivers moisture while promoting skin elasticity - all without clogging pores.
Types of Oil
- Jojoba Oil- Lightweight, non-oily liquid wax that closely mimics the skin's natural sebum, ensuring deep, quick absorption and balancing moisture without leaving a heavy residue.
- Sweet Almond Oil*- Provides a smooth, gentle glide during massage with a slight richness, delivering high levels of Vitamin E to soften the skin and improve overall complexion.
Additives
- VINEVIDA Skin Safe Fragrances- Provides stable, consistent, and non-toxic aroma. VINEVIDA promises the fragrance compound is safe for both high-heat burning and direct skin application when diluted. Please be mindful of allergens, as dilution will not prevent an allergic reaction. Used in Body Oil, votive, and scented candles only. It is generally advised to not add fragrance to candles intended for wax play. Massage candles burn at a much lower temperature and can hold fragrance more safely.
- Fluorescent Candle Dye Chips- Used to create blacklight candles, confirmed by manufacturer to not violate CA Prop 65 standards.
- Liquid Candle Dye- Highly concentrated, oil-soluble colorant for achieving consistent, predictable, and saturated color throughout the wax. Each color is tested to ensure dye does not raise the temperature beyond the melting point listed on the candle.
- Stearic Acid- Increases hardness, durability, and scent load. Used in scented candles only.
